Relationships

A Caring Relationship

  • Being good friends
  • Freedom to do your own thing
  • Listening to each other
  • Feeling safe
  • Having fun together
  • Time and space to see your friends
  • Knowing your opinions are respected
  • Being able to disagree with each other
  • Taking the relationship at your own pace

An Abusive Relationship

  • Getting angry when you talk to someone else
  • Verbally aggressive or physically threatening
  • Calling you names
  • Threatening to harm your family and friends
  • Posting unpleasant things about you on the internet
  • Forcing you to do things you don’t want to do
  • Saying it’s your fault that they get angry
  • Controlling your money
  • Not respecting your opinion

Relationship abuse is not a one-off event, it’s a cycle and usually gets worse if nothing is done to stop it.

Abusers are responsible for their behaviour, it’s not your fault.
