Why don't women leave an abusive relationship?

They have lowered your self-esteem, self-worth and confidence, they tell you that you’ll never cope on your own.
They tell you that you are breaking the family apart, they say that kids need two parents.
They threaten suicide.
They tell you that if you leave, they will find out where you live, you’ll never be free of them, you’ll always be looking over your shoulder.
They threaten to hurt the children.
You’ve lost touch with your family and aren’t allowed to have any friends. You’ve moved miles away from everyone you know and have no support network around you.
They control all the finances and restrict your money, you may even have to ask for money. How can you leave with no access to money?
They threaten to tell Social Services you’re a bad mother. They say the children will be taken into care and you’ll never see them again.
Nobody else believes they are abusive because outside the house they are the perfect partner.
They threaten to kill you and you believe them.

The most dangerous time for a woman in an abusive relationship is when she leaves or talks about leaving.
